Ed and his wife, Elaine, decided to keep the money they earned. The IRS didn't like that, and sent the govt after them, demanding a lot of back-taxes. Ed and Elaine asked to be shown the law that legalizes (or, in their mind, legitimizes) income tax, and were never shown it. The court even refused to let them ask anymore, so they refused to continue going to the govt's kangaroo court. They stayed in their home for 8 months, as the govt attacked and spied and wasted tons of money until they finally sent cops in to lie and capture the Browns, who are now in jail.
